Not sure about depression, but there is the Japanese scenario.
The bad debt will have to stay hidden for years, clearing
gradually.

The US RE bubble has not gotten nearly as high as in Japan.
The bubble in finance is huge, though. There has been nothing
like that, ever. The Fed has to pop it and deal with it instead
of enabling it, or else things will get a lot worse later.

This bubble has grown enormously already, and still growing.
