Yeah, I used to cook a lot before I got a full time job as a lawyer working for a firm, doing complicated family law cases and bankruptcies.
I needed a steady income with Ben in UVA Law and Nick at VCU, and my mom living with us now.
First they hired me as one of the two family lawyers, so I got an even mix of easy and hard cases. Then the bankruptcy lawyer quit, and I much prefer bankruptcy to family so I asked for his job, and they asked me to keep doing both jobs until they got another family lawyer.
Then they hired a newbie, so she can't do the complicated family law cases. I thought at least they'd give her all the easy ones but I get those, too.
The first family lawyer gets two cases to each one the newbie and I get, and I get all the bankruptcies.
Which are now coming in at the rate of one or two a day, and each of them takes at least four hours total, sometimes six, sometimes more. My old paralegal quit and the new paralegal doesn't know anything about bankruptcies, and is kept busy by the two lawyers giving her other stuff to do, so getting her up to speed isn't happening anytime soon.
So I don't cook anymore. Whatever time I get home, I feel like I was whipped over with a rubber hose all day.
Also, it's hot. Who wants to cook when it's hot?
On the plus side, I've lost one dress size, headed towards two. |
