"Being a soldier is by definition all about killing or being killed." Right. Which is why it is imperative that they be given missions that are appropriate, with defined goals and are achievable. Otherwise, you are causing a lot of deaths for no real reason. "Being a miner is a trade slightly different from that." True. But the similarities are that the jobs are dangerous and adequate measures should be taken to ensure their safety.
