Trust me Lizzie we have many very desireable land constrained single family home areas here too.. Those areas go down much slower and are more resilient. Overbuilding and way too many speculators holding the bag caused the rapid collapse in the other often talked about areas not a robust or collapsing local economy.. New condos are a different breed unto themselves causing a rapid increase in supply almost anywhere.

Silicon Valley proper I've only spent 3-4 days there a few years ago but looks like you have no land and severe constraints on any new building or upsizing of the zoning.. Now go to Riverside County, the Houston exhurbs or most any suburb in SW Florida and it is the complete opposite
