nadine ,most of that wonderfull stuff came back with the crusaders....that is from attemps to conquer and colonize the "outremer".
spoils of war might discribe it better ...dont delude yourself into believing we took everything peacefully.

That's not true. While I have no delusions about the peacefulness of Europeans, much of the absorbtion of Islamic ideas took place by scholars in Spain under Islamic rule, who passed the word to other places in Europe.

what were europeans doing when they brought back greek fire and the other stuff...they were waging the crusades which ,among other dark deeds includes the sacking by the west of the one stronghold against islam...by vile treachery ....Byzantium 1453.

You've got your history seriously muddled. You're thinking of the Fourth Crusade which sacked Constantinople in 1204. The Ottoman Turks took Constantinople in 1453, not Crusaders, which prompted a flood of refugee Greek scholars into Italy, which provided a boost for the Renaissance in ideas.

It's a misnomer to call the Crusades colonial wars btw; they were fought over the holy places, not over founding colonies. They were religous wars.
