Whereas implying that Christian "fundamentalists" are just one teeny step away from being as bad as Islamic "fundamentalists" (they're both fundamentalists, aren't they?) is done all the time I would argue that this "insult" isn't an insult to anyone's religious beliefs. It challenges, instead, their small-p politics and/or authoritarianism and/or their civility. It's not directly about their religious beliefs.
