Re: "down to 100k in Iraq by the election date."

Probably a fair guess there --- although Bush will still be kicking and screaming and spouting nonsensical 'historical parallels' until his dying day I suppose....

(Likely by 12 months *after* the new President is sworn in, regardless of who wins the election, US forces will - whatever numbers remain - be almost entirely redeployed to Kurdistan, [soon to be independent], and across the Southern border into Kuwait. From which vantage points, regardless of how long civil war rages between Sunnis and Shia in the former Iraq, we will be able to protect the Gulf's oil installations.)

Then, if Saudi Arabia and fellow allied Sunni States back one side in the civil war (as the King has threatened to do), while Iran backs fellow Shiites in the Shia Southern half of former Iraq... the Western world stands to benefit from a new age of lower oil prices as *BOTH SIDES* pump oil full-out to pay for the disastrously expensive business of war, (the same as the last 'Golden Age' for oil consumers, back during the eight years in the 'eighties when the Iraq/Iran Gulf War raged.)
