I am buying Pinetree Capital right now.

pnpff.pk u.s. 4.75

pnp.to c5.01

DAILY chart with on balance volume above and below:

stockcharts.com

WEEKLY with obv:

stockcharts.com

If you look carefully at the on-balance volume in the above daily and weekly charts (showing accumulation and distribution by the so called smart money), i think you can see that the stock has kept its fan club even during the decline.

jim dines' letter called my attention to it. he is a long time believer.

as a caveat, the company did attract the attention of canadian regulators for possible insider trading back in november of 2006 and that has never been publicly resolved.

At four-five bucks a share i am willing to hope/pray that any problems of a regulatory nature are covered by the price. it is now selling around book value after getting as high as roughly three times book during the uranium run-up. owns a lot of drill plays in gold, silver, and uranium plus some oil-gas plays. owns a lot of mega uranium, for instance.

i think pine tree is way oversold, and i like the way this closed-end fund gives me exposure to 500 or so juniors. pinetree takes macro positions in microcap companies. I do feel it is early to be buying drill plays, that the best recovery stocks are blue chip golds like AEM and RGLD.

However, because this fund came down so hard, i am taking a shot at it. also because it is so diversified within the nat resource arena.

if you're interested, take a look at their recent earnings report and also theres a fairly recent short form prospectus on sedar that is revealing.

if you like this one, you may like endeavour mining capital edvmf.pk edv.to

both of them tend to not disclose their holdings much. i think that is because both of them act as investment bankers for microcaps and they dont want to spook the market too much when they enter and then leave.

I would be interested to hear some canadians' thoughts on pinetree and founder/boss sheldon inwentash.

May all of us live long and prosper and share our wealth with others.

Michael
