Thank you and accepted, I absolutely never intend to antagonize or bait anyone, my real life is bigger and fuller and richer than that... I ask only to learn from others who might be able to fill in the blanks in my own thinking, this is why I started this thread in the first place, not because I know it all, but because I know very little and hope to learn and benefit from those who post here... I would only hope that others would also want to benefit as well...
I did read the text you posted, again thanks...
Agreed, our policies have been twisted and turned inside out, but we can't go back, we have to keep moving and looking forward while we learn from our past mistakes...
We cannot simply leave the Middle East and expect those who hate us to stop hating us... they hate us not because of what we do, they hate us because of how they view the world, and we simply do not fit into their scheme of things... from the text of the speech you posted, it appears Ron Paul is suggesting that we should simply back away from that region of the world, that we simply don't belong there, that's it's none of our business... I cannot disagree more...
The fact that islam has made previous attempts at world domination in previous centuries is all the proof I need and is exactly my point, they will not stop until they succeed, and they will certainly succeed once they get their hands on any sort of nuclear device, and to think otherwise is incredibly naive... sadam insane used WMD's to poison 100,000's of his own people and he had already broken his promises by violating all 17 of the U.N. peace accords he promised to keep... the current iranian leader is working at breakneck speed to obtain nuclear weapon grade material... it is their very view of the world that makes the West infidels, but NOT because we have a physical presence in the Middle East, but BECAUSE WE DO NOT BELIEVE IN ALLAH AND WE ARE NOT MOSLUM... nothing could be simpler, yet this profound and obvious truth is labeled as racist to liberal thinkers in the West... this is remarkable... so, therefore, we've been moved back to 1938 once again to re-live the same events when pacifists were saying we should not worry about hitler, it was none of our business, we have no business being there... of course, this was AFTER he already broke all promises and treaties and had already invaded Poland...
So, they hate us BECAUSE WE DO NOT BELIEVE IN ALLAH AND WE ARE NOT MOSLUM...
This is the ONLY reason, and here's why: we can enjoy such a wonderful lifestyle and yet not give any credit to allah is completely unacceptable to them, it threatens their entire belief system... this is why they want to destroy us, this is their jihad, and if we simply tip toe out of there as make believe everything will be okay is horrifically short sighted...
Ron Paul says:
To put this in a proper perspective, consider how Americans, or especially Texans, would feel if the Gulf of Mexico were patrolled and protected by warships of a foreign power, say the Russians. What would we then think if that same power patrolling the Gulf built air bases in Texas and Florida with our government=s complicity with the argument that this was necessary to protect "their" oil and with our government's complicity? This would anger many Americans and this anger would be directed to both the foreign occupiers of our territorial waters and our own government that permitted it. Yet this is exactly what has been happening in the Persian Gulf region. For religious, historic and sovereignty reasons, the Muslim people harbor great resentment toward us.
This is hardly "the proper perspective," we're not attacking other countries, this is a very shortsighted and unbalanced remark that he made...
This is the problem I have with Ron Paul... we can't live an isolationist lifestyle, the world is too small for that... when the two oceans protected us, then isolationism was at least a defensible position to some, but when missiles can reach anywhere, isolationist thinking is not an option...
