I keep hearing about the great risk of the 240 trillion dollar derivatives mkt. Moriarty today just the latest. Always talk about the counterparties failure to pay in event of large interest rate move. Never mention the equal gains by the counter-counter parties. This is only a poker game, the game can't go broke only some of the players. May mean new name on the office door for some, but the net wealth is still there. Though take plenty time and Atty fees to iron out, and could throw quite a scare for a time. But it is not like a stock mkt drop or property drop, where almost all are long side bets, and the wealth goes back to money heaven. Nobody ever mentions the very real difference in these markets, just talk the panic numbers.
