They were raising and brutalizing them to kill, or be killed for the "sport" of it.


They were raising vicious dogs who wanted to kill the other dog. This was the sport, and I don't quite see it in the same light as torturing helpless puppies. The whole idea of dogfighting or cockfighting is that you are trying to breed an animal that is a good aggressive fighter, that wants to kill the other animal and doesn't need to be pushed to do it.

I don't see any necessary connection between dogfighting or cockfighting and brutality, anymore than I would say that boxers are all wife-beaters or rapists.
