...but it seems that the people who are truly in the know - the people who manufacture computers and publish software - do not see this as an earth-shattering issue, unless, of course, they stand to profit from it. Personally, I think the Y2K problem is a great way to get someone who is technically illiterate to upgrade an existing hardware/software platform. Bill, to use Sid's analogy, would you buy a new car from a salesman based simply on the argument your current car would be obsolete in two years? OK, maybe you might, but most people I know wouldn't (gg). When I market my software, I emphasize the benefits of client-server technology, object-oriented software design and the ability to tap into the internet and electronic commerce. To characterize the IT professionals who make such high level decisions as platform changes as "technologically illiterate" to try and make a point is shameless. I'm also intrigued by the strong emotions expressed by the Y2K believers. They really seem hell-bent on proving that this is a "real" issue. It seems to me that if this were truly a monumental problem, the evidence for it would be self-evident. We wouldn't need Y2K conferences or fly-by-night consultants offering Y2K "awareness" training or "assesment" services. Why do soup cans say "heat and serve"? I rest my case. (gg) - Jeff
