I have always found that thinking for myself works vastly better than counting how many people think something different: < if 75 percent of my countrymen and almost the entire rest of the world thought one way, and I was in the 25% of Americans who see the world in a completely opposite light, I'd seriously re-evaluate my thought processes. >

Your method means you don't need to think at all. Being in a majority is not much guide to being right. It is mostly just herd behaviour to avoid being attacked by the mob and dominant tribal megalomaniacs.

Getting ideas and information from other people is an excellent idea, as it short cuts a lot of heavy lifting. Re-evaluating thought processes is a good idea Wharfie, but unless something worthwhile is found, one might as well continue with what makes sense.

For example, I have spent quarter of a century keeping an eye on the greenhouse effect but haven't had to change my thinking much, though I have gone from thinking that human contributions won't matter significantly, to thinking they could do, but probably not due to a huge human population drop and technological, cultural and genetic changes.
