Roll Call is reporting that Senator Larry Craig, Republican of Idaho, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge earlier this month after he was arrested in an airport restroom by a plainsclothes police officer investigating complaints of lewd conduct. It said Mr. Craig paid a $500 fine and is on one-year probation for the disorderly conduct charge.

The police officer wrote a lengthy, detailed report about his encounter with Senator Craig in June in the men’s room of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The description includes a lot of toe-tapping and hand gestures, before the officer arrested Mr. Craig.

The senator’s office said it was all a he said/he said misunderstanding.

In a statement released by his office, Mr. Craig said: “At the time of this incident, I complained to the police that they were misconstruing my actions. I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct. I should have had the advice of counsel in resolving this matter. In hindsight, I should not have pled guilty. I was trying to handle this matter myself quickly and expeditiously.”
