VeraSun and Kroger Open 20 Ethanol Fueling Stations in Ohio and Kentucky

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Ethanol producer VeraSun Energy Corp. and grocery store operator Kroger Co. on Tuesday opened 20 ethanol fueling stations at Kroger stores in Ohio and Kentucky.

Kroger becomes the first national retailer to offer VeraSun's brand of E85 fuel, the companies said.

With the addition of the Kroger locations, VeraSun said it now has more than 100 retail ethanol fueling stations in 11 states and Washington.

In connection with the announcement, Enterprise Rent-A-Car said it will designate four additional rental locations in the region as VeraSun E85 branches.

Enterprise and VeraSun announced a partnership in July where Enterprise committed to concentrate flex-fuel vehicles around certain VeraSun E85 fueling stations.

Enterprise said it will provide ethanol and maps to Kroger's Ohio VeraSun fueling stations inside each vehicle.

VeraSun shares were unchanged at $12.36 in morning trading, while Kroger shares fell 41 cents to $26.20.
