Very good news for AMD if the score is legit (run at default resolution, etc.). If that score is representative of what gaming performance will be like the enthusiast community would probably drop Core 2 Duo like a hot potato.

One nit in the article:

"When clocked at 3.0 GHz and equipped with two overclocked HD2900XT cards in CrossFire, Agena FX or single-core Barcelona smashed an index of 30,000 3DMarks 06."

I'm sure he meant single-socket Barcelona, that would fit the context better (i.e. Agena FX == Single-socket Barcelona.)

A good question is, whether these benches are really taking advantage of quad-core, or would dual-core fare just as well while being cheaper and cooler?
