I think I read somewhere that Compaq registered a 37% market share of the sub $1,000 PC last month. Don't know how much of this was
the MediaGX and how much was Intel's.

Compaq is smart in maintaining a mixed vendor shop. It's even
planning on using AMD's K6 to negotiate better prices from Intel.
IF Compaq (and IBM) can get away with this, look for others
to follow.
