Re: would mean "just let it all happen around us, but don't intervene"... No. Not at all. (Nor has he said anything like that....) He says: "Only when it is clearly in OUR NATIONAL INTEREST." In other words, he has no problem with the US DEFENDING ITSELF, even so-called 'aggressive defense'... (for example: he strongly supported the attack on the Taliban in Afghanistan, and hot-pursuit of OBL wherever the Hell he goes!), but is opposed to dilatory, unproductive mucking about in other nation's sovereign affairs... CERTAINLY opposed to putting the American taxpayer in great DEBT over such counter-productive and ill-conceived business.
