What a desperate article. I didn't see how the issue of 1099 forms fit into the story. The intent was likely to convey an impression of a pattern of noncompliance even though this issue has nothing to do with lending practices per se.

I'm still waiting to hear where Countrywide engaged in "abusive" lending practices. Has Gretchen Morgenson heard the phrase "caveat emptor"? Why should it not apply to taking out a loan from a financial institution?
