IBM had no choices for many many years. It's no wonder the majority of their PC revenue and earnings comes from Intel. They are test marketing Cyrix (Canada) and AMD now.
As to Dell, unless Intel keeps giving them competitive pricing they'll be force to use non-Intel CPU's. IMHO.
Heck, Micro Center came out last month with a sub $500 PC based on the Cyrix's MediaGX chips PR166Mhz, 12xCD ROM, 33.6 modem, 16M RAM, speakers, keyboard, mouse, MS 95, MS Works, Etc...
If Dell wants to break in the Far East market, they'll have to get a very generous Intel price or go with the MediaGX. I hearing sub $350 PC.
