I don't think anybody can claim that Japan's near zero inflation is fake. Even their asset prices are deflating -- no government can hide that. The Nikkei is less than half what it was in 1990 -- the DOW is 10 times 1990 levels. Their real estate is even lower -- ours is at least three times higher. They are experiencing lower manufactured goods prices, just like us. And they are not subject to the great inflation we are subjected to in some key services, like medical.
