Novell Inc plans China joint venture
BEIJING, Oct 8 (Reuter) - U.S. computer company Novell Inc plans to set up a joint venture in China soon to develop software, the China Daily on Wednesday quoted company president Eric Schmidt as saying.

He said Novell was certain to increase direct investment in China as its demand for information technology surged. Schmidt gave no other details.

Novell's sales revenue in China in the first eight months of this year jumped by 65 percent compared with the year-ago period, he said, without giving figures.

China was one of Novell's fastest growing markets, Schmidt said, adding that China now accounted for two to three percent of the information technology market and this share was expected to double in the next five years.

Novell would meet growing competition in the Chinese market by relying on its unique products rather than on price cutting, Schmidt said.
