hey Mike. There was a Poster a while back named Steve - I am sure you have heard of him. I know the thread has, specifically, Paul Engel. Steve did provide a very good point, that is if a company starts with a Server, ie: Compaq, then they should stay with that Manufacturer Forever. If you have a Compaq Proliant 5000 and then all of a sudden a vendor has a Fire Sale on an HP NetServer, you would be making a Big Mistake By Buying that Hp and Mixing Manufacturers. Each has their own way of setting up their systems and, unless you want to be messing around with dissimilar Hardware everyday, you stay consistent. Again, it's that productivity thing. You work on stuff that the company pays you for, ie: Routers, Hubs, Switches, Servers, etc... and everyone has a connection to their Apps., All The Time. People have enough to worry about in MIS - they don't need to be worrying about making 2 different Server Manufacturers work together (Heck, I really don't think Compaq and HP Wants to work together in the small Server Farm, anyway). They don't set themselves up for this failure, because they Make the Right Decision about staying Similar with regards to manufacturers and this makes them more productive.
So getting to your point. Is Intel Inside a Fallacy (sp.)? Hmmm. If Corporate MIS People who are Managing Many Nodes on a Network want to sleep at night, then I would think they would want the best. By the best I mean, the most Consistent Hardware on their Lans and Wans at All times. I have never had a customer say that an Intel processor Failed. Never. And I have sold over $3 million of solutions in the last year.
This is just my opinion. But Intel inside Carries so much weight in this industry, that customers Expect it to be in Every PC. I can't even imagine asking my best customers to look at anything else.
Take Care Mike.
