No. Much of the activities you mention are electric generation. There are a lot of alternatives that either don't emit CO2 or are carbon neutral. And they can be done without massive disruptions.

A big fraction is electric generation, but a lot is not. Also the electricty generation can't quickly be replaced without disruption and a very large expense.

"Some people have proposed slashing CO2 output within a generation or even within a decade. "

Yes. Some. Not most. Not all. Interesting that you pick the shortest period, pick some worst cases as to costs, and then announce that the costs are too high.

That is cherry picking.

I'm responding to those some. Its not an insignificant school of thought and it needs to be responded to. If that's "cherry picking" than there is nothing wrong with cherry picking.

Also even beyond a decade the points apply just to a lesser extent, unless you go to very long time frames. If your going to tell me that the changes should be made over generations, than I don't have a lot of problem with your ideas. I think you underestimate the costs, overestimate the benefits, and overestimate how likely it is that we need major changes, but its not like your just making it all up, there is some real risk and I wouldn't suggest just ignoring it. I mainly disagree with the "we need massive changes now" crowd.
