Teradata to Spin Off From NCR on Oct. 1
Tuesday August 28, 4:15 pm ET

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Teradata, NCR Corp.'s data-warehousing business, will begin operating as an independent company beginning Oct. 1, NCR announced Tuesday.

Teradata will be headquartered in suburban Miami Township and have about 5,300 employees worldwide.

NCR announced plans for the spinoff in January, saying it would allow each company to better concentrate on its individual customer base, business strategy and operational needs.

NCR makes ATMs and checkout scanners for retailers. The Teradata unit makes computers that store and analyze massive amounts of data that enable businesses to track inventory and perform other tasks.

NCR said a tax-free distribution of Teradata stock will occur Sept. 30 to NCR shareholders of record as of Sept. 14. Shareholders will receive one share of Teradata common stock for each share of NCR common stock held.

Teradata will trade as a publicly held company under the symbol TDC.

NCR employs 29,650 employees worldwide.
