Is there a connection. I want to make the following observations: -Around April'97 Rebbecca Yarchover of UBS puts a buy on Vivus. Vivus goes from 38 to 55 to 75 and 84 and down to 74. -Rebecca comes out again and puts a "hold" rating on Vivus," based on price".Vvvus tanks to 65,55, 45 and 32.5.(of coursr the Barrons article was in it too). -Shortly thereafter Wall Street Jour writes article about UBS securities:" while several firm analysts were reccommending several stocks, driving their rice up, other firm brokers " SOLD ID SHORT" ! thus riding the stock up and down." SEC is looking into it. Vvus takes a drammatic turn up to 84 again from 32.5 ( pre-split). QUESTION: 1)Did some UBS brokers sell Vivus short? 2) were some of them not able to cover their shorts? -Enter today: UBS reccommends Pfizer, based on -Single digits gowth next 6 months. -New drugs :- Trovan a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, has FOUR competing products!! -Schizophrenia and arrhythmia drugs have small market. -Viagra probably 1 year ( or never) away from approval - the above news is SEVERAL MONTHS OLD!!!!( 2? ). -QUESTION: 1 )what is the hurry to reccommend PFE - now? -BIGGER QUESTION: Why reccommend it one day before Vivus comes out with good news? -EVEN BIGGER QUESTION: Are any brokers who are short on Vivus, desperately trying to knock Vivus down to cover their shorts? I WANT TO BE PERFECTLY CLEAR: I AM ONLY OBSERVING AND ASKING QUESTIONS;I AM NOT MAKING ANY CONNECTIONS.I JUST WANT TO LEARN. TA
