Assume, for a moment, that you wake up to news of the Atlantis Event; all the land north of Egypt, south of Lebanon, and west of the Jordan River got sucked down into the depths of the Med last night, never to be seen again.

What would be the effects on the US?
An oil shock recession from the loss of 4 M BPD of oil?
The loss of our major Med port, along with our entire Med fleet?
Loss of our biggest, or even our smallest, air base?
Loss of our major staging area for ME military adventures?
Loss of a canal allowing us to cut from one strategic ocean to another without having to skirt the southern continents?
Losing our major source of imported produce?
Loss of our main supplier of strategic resources?
Loss of one of the 3 countries supporting our boycott of Cuba?
