It's not just not doing research, but not even realizing that research needs to be done combined with a lack of investing sense combined with what can only be called a lack of common sense.

It comes down to a total fundamental misunderstanding of the stock market in general: the concept of money at risk, a finite resource. If a guy stops you on the street and says if you give him $10,000 he will give you back $20,000, would you do it on the basis of "hey, innocent until proven guilty"?
