I hate to get involved in this argument in my first post to SI, but I want to express my opinion on this whole Dell/Apple situation, then I want to get to something off my chest I've been dying to discuss for a while now.
As for Apple vs. (?) Dell - Dell may be "selling someone else's innovations", but Dell's original innovation and vision does not involve what kind of system will be sold, rather how the systems are sold. From what I understand, now Apple seems to want to sell their systems directly. Does that mean they're using somebody else's innovations and visions to sell their innovations and visions? I think so.
Both companies deserve a great deal of respect. One may have superior products and ideas, another may have a superior business model. Are we comparing (sorry) Apples and Oranges here?
Anyway, here's what I really want to talk about. When will Apple change its Logo? I was - literally - praying for them to flash a new, cool, 3D, shiny, up-to-date Apple logo at the end of the commercial and was very disturbed and angry to see the same old thing. When I think of that rainbow apple, I think of seeing it on my Apple IIe, My 5.25" disk drives, and my Apple IIgs (grrrrr....) If they could just have a contest, where their faithful users, who just happen to be amazing designers, were to design a new logo, they could improve their image in many ways. Anything. I really don't care who comes up with it. But, I honestly think it's one of the best things they could do now. Somebody out there must agree with me!
