If I remember rightly, the best correlation with intelligence is mother's intelligence. Lead and other toxins are well down the list, which is some comfort. Our main problem remains our rotten DNA, which is closely related to chimps. So we shouldn't expect much from our mental acuity. But it's still annoying to be dragged down from even our minimal potential. Life is hard enough without bonus stupidity. Across the world, Negroes have lower average IQs than others and it's not explained just by lead, dietary deficiencies etc, though they are assuredly problems, as they are for other people. By country, there are quite large intelligence differences and Griffe du Lion has done some interesting thinking about the effects on GDP and tested his theories against actual results.
