"if they were going to do it they should have done it long ago not advertise it in every newspaper -- and then do nothing."

Maybe, but isn't it true to form? The run up to the Iraq war was equally advertised and public. This was mainly for cover and to suck in not only the United Nations but also as many coalition "partners" as possible with the on going lies, er - rhetoric of weapons of mass destruction. And during this long run up period, Iraq was powerless to do anything about it.

Since then the US has solidified its base of support, including all of Europe, not just Great Britain, which includes the once hated France, and also a now compliant Canada among others.

I know it sounds crazy to you, but perhaps you give too much credit to the sanity and common sense of this administration.

There may in fact be a hope that Iran will completely fold and dismantle their nuclear programs, and ultimately open their borders to US imperialists and embrace the west with eager passion. Now that's crazy! But North Korea stands as proof that what was once impossible can perhaps be achieved. And so the preparations, rhetoric and pressure keeps building on Iran, and one never knows when words will result in a military accident or "coincident" which will serve as an excuse for a broader war.

And consider this. Bush has made specific statements and threats. He must follow up or prove forever that his words are empty. And that is not in the Bush style. Especially considering the almost universal agreement among the US leadership of both parties about their commitment and solidarity with Israel. And Iran is the number one threat to the State of Israel as often stated by Israeli leadership.
