NEWS RELEASE.....Another agreement! WHEAT RIDGE, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 1997--U.S. Wireless Data Inc. (OTCBB:USWDA) announced today it has signed an exclusive agreement with GoldCan Recycling Inc. ("GoldCan") for wireless monitoring of its state of the art automated aluminum redemption centers. This is the first application of USWD's TRANZ Enabler technology outside the credit card/point-of-sale industry. Under the terms of the agreement, GoldCan will integrate U.S. Wireless Data's TRANZ Enabler within each of its aluminum can recycling units to receive and monitor daily vending machine totals via a wireless internet gateway that is connected to a host server located at GoldCan's Denver, Colo. headquarters. Each GoldCan vending machine will be constantly monitored through onboard electronics and software. In the event of a vending machine problem, a transaction will be sent via the TRANZ Enabler to GoldCan. The GoldCan host will determine the location of the vending machine via the TRANZ Enabler's Internet Protocol address and then issue an alphanumeric page to the appropriate service center thereby reducing downtime with little impact on the revenue base. USWD will receive a monthly equipment and wireless service fee on every TRANZ Enabler placed by GoldCan. GoldCan anticipates placing in excess of 3,000 units over the next three years. The integration of respective technologies will result in a very fast, efficient and cost effective solution for real time monitoring capabilities for the automated recycling industry. USWD's technology and wireless services will provide GoldCan with a competitive advantage over recycling units requiring wired connectivity with the high installation and monthly costs associated with a telephone line. The wireless option will allow the deployment of recycling units essentially anywhere Cellular Digital Packet Data ("CDPD") coverage is available.
