My thoughts about FCC and DOJ approval of an AT&T-GTE deal: The FCC Chairman's reaction to the AT&T-SBC deal was influenced by the notion that it would be putting the Bell System back together again, at least in part. Remember that he is an antitrust lawyer. If a foreign corporation (BT) can receive FCC and DOJ approval to take over the second largest IXC in this country, it is hard for me to believe that either the regulators or Justice could raise any serious objections to a deal with GTE.
