Apropos of our discussion over on the Super Stocks thread, in the Wall Street Journal this morning there is an article on ATMs (actually on a guy who scouts new ATM locations for Huntington Bancshares). Can't give you a link; I got it via PointCast. Within the article the following projections were referenced:

US ATMS installed:

1993 -- 94,872 (a)
1996 -- 140,000 (e)
2000 -- 220,000 (e)

Source: Mentis Corp.<n>

NCR holds a substantial market position as the #1 supplier of ATMs worldwide, so a sustained marketing effort might be expected to capture the majority of new ATM installations by year 2000.

The article also described some of the new market factors in placing ATMs today versus years ago.
