It seems to be completely lost on stock buyers here that the reason overnight rates are rising is because banks are increasingly reluctant to lend to each other.

And why would that be the case? Because who better than the other banks who are inside the loop to know categorically that one or more among them must have a few dead bodies in their closet, and nobody wants to get caught out having advanced funds to whoever it is who may already be technically insolvent but hasn't been found out yet.

It's like a giant game of Hearts between the banks, and everyone's afraid of getting stuck with the Queen of Spades
