I can understand the energy efficiency, because the only way of getting less surface area would be to build a sphere.

Ground water is OK, if you have good filtration and good treatment. We looked at a very nice house in Juneau that had a cistern in the muskeg. I didn't tell my wife about the dead mouse I saw floating in it.
