Atlas Shrugged Has A Director LIBERTAS BLO — Dirty Harry @ 5:52 am I thought this project was dead but there's even a script by none other than Randall Wallace: Lionsgate has brought on Vadim Perelman to rewrite "Atlas Shrugged" and direct Angelina Jolie in the starring role. While Lionsgate needs to get a final script before formally committing to a start date with Perelman at the helm, the move puts the company in a strong position for an early 2008 production start, just a shade over 50 years after Ayn Rand's famed novel was first published in 1957. … Perelman will work from a draft of the script penned by "Braveheart" scribe Randall Wallace, who managed to boil down the Rand manifesto of 1,100-plus pages into a 127-page script. The drama revolves around what happens when great industrialists and thinkers go on strike and the world grinds to a halt. Wallace is a solid screenwriter and a conservative, so that's certainly encouraging. Another good sign is that the director attached debuted with the marvelous House Of Sand And Fog in 2003 — a film also based on a novel. What we have to hope is that Anglia Joli drops out and that the package remains appealing to the studio. Who would you choose to play Dagney Taggart and John Galt? In a perfect world a 30-year-old Lauren Bacall and a 40-year-old Alan Ladd would be available. Maybe Cate Blanchette and Daniel Craig…? Aaron Eckhart? libertyfilmfestival.com
