Re: "You can't ridicule a straw poll when Romney wins, but then celebrate one when Ron Paul wins...."

SURE I can! :-)

But, two quick points just the same:

1) Paul *did not* 'win' this one. <g> (At least, if one measures 'wins' by the official results, like any horse race!)

Kinda hard to collect on a win ticket for a horse that officially only SHOWED. LOL!

2) ALL 'straw polls' are pretty much just beauty contests among a Party's most partisan few --- no sense in assigning all that much 'importance' to them, except as a preliminary indication of a candidate's in-fighting and organizational skills and strengths....

In THAT regard, Rudy was practically SHUT OUT by the Bush/Perry machine in Texas! (Finishing a very distant FIFTH behind even Huckleberry! Just ONE THIRD of Paul's vote haul....)

Apparently Rudy ain't got many supporters in the great State of Texas.... :-)

PS --- most G.O.P. insiders and knowledgeable observers said that this straw poll was a very managed affair --- and that Governor Perry tried his DARNEDEST to swing the win to Thompson... but the 'expected, preordained winner' could only be pushed up to a #2 position (Place, not Win). It appears that Hunter's strong military cred. and his strong opposition to immigration carried the day for him among the 'most faithful of the faithful' in the Texas G.O.P.
