Thanks for sharing all of that. I would feel much better, and I believe, everyone would, if there were some actual totals of what the drug culture has cost society, in so many levels, already. The main difference between alcohol abuse and drug abuse is the length of time it takes to become addicted. Alcohol usually takes about 20 years of using heavily, to start someone sliding downhill. I understand some of the new designer drugs take only a few days. Meth is relatively easy to make I hear. And one only has to look at some of the pictures on internet to frighten most of us....
We hear every day about rapes, robberies, murders, and various other crimes.
What we don't hear is the tallies of HOW many happen each day...and where....and what happened to a) the victim, b) the family of the victim, and c) the guilty party themselves.
EVERY Community, EVERY State, and all across the US, crimes are being committed because of drugs and alcohol every minute.
I truly believe that if we legalize drugs, our society will sink even farther into the morass than some of it already is.
There are old drunks. There are VERY few old druggies.
Most of the druggies die very early.
I sure don't know the answers, but I do know that society needs many more statistics that are accurate about the actual damage the drugs have cost us as a society.
Just saying "legalize the stuff" won't make it go away. |
