Avoiding a debate is a bit too cute, it shows weakness and the unwillingness to confront the issues, it makes no difference if he's ahead or not, not being at the debate was disrespectful to the voters and reveals a serious negative about him from the starting gate... he probably refused to appear because he knows he would not do well in these debates, he's been scripted and rehearsed all these years, I don't know if he could speak off the cuff and without the text in front of him... GZ
