Since they own the Fed, they can order a bailout. I call that
rational expectations. -g- The problem is lower rates will
trigger the dollar meltdown, then the Fed won't be able
to do anything. It's the Asians who own all US debt. It's kind
of way too late now, the currency crisis is pretty much
unavoidable, and the latest credit mess could be the trigger.
A huge mess, by the way, but stocks are in no way discounting
what's coming. They might do that abruptly, who knows. If
the funding deals for some Co-s fall apart again this week, we will
see a rapid drop.

What happens when the dollar index drops below 80? Good question.
Foreign CBs sold the dollar all August.
