You are right that there is a cumulative loss of carbon in the continental crust, though a lot gets recycled through weathering. Offsetting this effect is the Sun getting brighter over time. Well here you go again. We don't want Cretaceous or Carboniferous levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. The ice caps will melt and sea levels rise and reduce the land area we can live on. And with the Sun stronger now then then it will be even hotter than on those geological periods. And the rapid change will wipe out what is left of natural ecosystems that can't move as freely as they could before human land clearing. So getting to 400ppm is too much. 300ppm might be nice.
