It seems strange for you to be opposing a free market solution and me to be arguing for one...

But frankly employer paid health insurance is pretty much the root of all evil in the system. Unless the end user is making the economic decisions, then the free market doesn't work. The consumer will never force cost efficiency as long as there is no cost benefit/penalty.

That said, with generations of people that view health care as a benefit of employment we will not be able to roll back to a free market. The next best solution is national health insurance.
