Measuring from 2000 to now has more to do with things like economic cycles and short run effects. Esp, since 2000 was a local high point, but even if you measure from other points it doesn't really do much to show any serious trends.

Also other measurements show things in a better light than median household income.

Than there is the points Samuelson made, that where quoted in the post you replied to. Which are esp. relevant to the poverty rate (poverty rates among people who aren't immigrants or decedents of recent immigrants have been going down) but also apply to median household income and other similar measures.

Even adjusting for such factors, or using other measurements that show more favorable results, if we slide in to a recession (which is possible) than things will look bad, but again you dealing with economic cycles and short term effects not secular trends that would justify some major shift in the way the government interacts with the economy.

To be fair I'm sure you encounter arguments from the other side that use short term effects as supposed proof that tax cuts are the answer to everything or that your opposition to any other policy X, is obviously wrong because look, things are better this year than last, but from either side such arguments are weak.
