Good........now that we've jumped that hurdle -gg- where do you think the govt should spend all of the tax revenue that will be realized from the controlled sale of drugs? I can't believe that dems........with their liberal views and enormous appetite for more and more revenue......haven't jumped feet first on that band wagon.
Our state would certainly be the main controller..... as they are for liquor. 100s of 1000s of people would be employed. Some farmers would switch crops and start growing marijuana, others poppys. Drug enforcement would still exist with many of those depts switching over to crime investigation, and prevention.
Drug lords in several nations would be put out of business, although some would remain underground just to undercut the govt. and fund their expensive toys.
Maybe innocent people would not be caught in the cross hairs of rival gangs........many lives could be saved. Maybe the entire drug culture, hip hop, hollywood bad boy, gangsta wanna be mentality would immediately become passe'...........or at least uncool for a lot of people? Maybe, just maybe, kids......especially inner city kids....would actually start paying attention to more important things like their education.
Maybe if the issue was out in the open and legal, with strict controls of course, the people of our nation would be freer to talk about the dangers of drugs just like it talks about the dangers of smoking, driving drunk, avoiding poisons, curing cancer, staying safe? (which is where a large % of tax revenue should be spent imo......education, education, education)
Lots of maybes there, but keeping drug transactions out of sight in the recess's of dark alley ways or tenements in large cities or remote farms in the boondocks is doing more harm to people than legalizing them would. Again jmo.
We can't know unless we try, and as has been pointed out by some here, the whole drug enforcement system is a joke. If people want drugs they will get drugs. Leaving those transactions in the hands of hoodlums, thugs and gangsters isn't very smart imo.
And think of all the revenue we're missing out on.
But back to my first question that has me most curious
Suppose our nation legalizes the use of drugs. And I must reiterate............the sale and use of drugs would be strictly regulated. At least that is the only way I can see it happening if at all.
