He could have been forced out, or so the writing on the wall for him in terms of the internal politics at AMD.

Or if he did decide to leave it still doesn't have to be because Barcelona is going to be a failure in his opinion. Maybe if it was obvious that it was going to be a massive runaway success he would have had some reason to stay, but even assuming his opinion could be 100% relied on, there is a big area available between "failure" and "massive runaway success".
