Slow pay increases didn't cause the depression. And Henry Ford's idea that paying his employees enough to buy his products would increase sales to a large enough extent to justify the pay increase by itself is mostly bogus.

Henry Ford's increasing his salaries did benefit him, by helping to retain employees, and also to recruit better employees. It probably helped motivate existing employees as well.
