There is an article in the MSM/NYT today by steve erlanger that supports your thesis that the west banker fatah leadership cant even offer to take responsiblity for even the smaller towns on the WB much less control the whole country. Abbas even seems ready to step down because of the workload. Actually the author inadvertantly makes the case that Hamas is doing a better job in gaza despite the hurdles and the fatah opposition. If only they could live with israel's existance they might be a more effective partner. They dont hold the populace of gaza to the strict iran codes much less the primitive al quaeda/taliban ones.
All in all your pessimism seems well rooted. Folks like bobby in this light may be considered wishful thinkers. What the danger is for them and what i have pointed out to Mike is that desire for peace should not become code words for anti-israel views as the arabs continue for the most part to make their own mess while the israelis are doing the scut work of trying to clean it all up. What are they supposed to do after all?
