News flash: The MAJORITY of modern computer hardware and software is "Y2K compliant"

Most likely true, but the problem is that the vast majority of systems that we depend upon is not by any stretch of the imagination modern.

What is promoted (both internally & externally) as "new" is typically just a prettied up layer built on top of the decades old legacy systems.

Mainframe systems that cost justified to have a life of 7 years back in the late '70s are now going into their third decade of useful life. Wholesale replacement of such systems has proven to be extremely difficult.
