To be trite or maybe not...such a thing happened in israel.

and yes the circumstances involved were different....maybe.

but,revolutionaries are often called gangsters and criminals ,yet go on to govern states.

yitzhak shamir is one such example.

statesmen are often no better than criminals themselves.....it is eazier to steal with a pen.

You judge men by their deeds. The Jews under the yishuv during the Mandate behaved completely differently from the Palestinians. They built institutions. The built the Histadrut. They built the entire apparatus of a state. It was ready in 1948.

Sure the Brits called the Jewish fighters terrorists, though the vast majority of the attacks were against soldiers and equipment. But look what Ben Gurion did. The moment he declared independence, he brought the Jewish militias to heel under the Haganah, which was under civilian control. He even ordered a young captain named Yitzchak Rabin to shoot at a ship, the Altalena, that was bringing in arms to the Irgun against Ben Gurion's orders. Menachem Begin was on that ship, he nearly got killed.

None of this ever happened on the Palestinian side, though they had tremendous opportunity and many promised rewards if they did it. Power still resides in the gun, and the guns are in the hands of various factions. There is no rule of law. It was like that in 1948 and it's still like that.
